This booklet constitutes the completely refereed court cases of the seventh foreign Workshop of the Initiative for the review of XML Retrieval, INEX 2008, held at Dagstuhl fort, Germany, in December 2008.

The target of the INEX 2008 workshop used to be to collect researchers who participated within the INEX 2008 crusade. Over the 12 months major as much as the development, partaking enterprises contributed to the construction of a large-scale XML attempt assortment by means of developing issues, appearing retrieval runs, and offering relevance checks. The workshop concluded the result of this large-scale attempt, summarized and addressed the problems encountered, and devised a piece plan for the longer term overview of XML retrieval structures. The forty nine papers integrated during this quantity document the ultimate result of INEX 2008. they've been divided into sections in line with the seven tracks of the workshop, investigating numerous features of XML retrieval, from e-book seek to entity rating, together with interplay aspects.

2 Other Tasks We submitted a run to each of the other two tasks in the AdHoc track, where each of them was based on the CO titles of topics and the BM25-style element-level score shown in Section 2. To produce the runs for the RelevantInContext task, we ran TopX in document mode which generated a list of documents ordered by the highest score of any element within the document, together with a list of elements and their scores for each document. 19470553, corresponding to rank 6 of all runs; this is a good improvement over 2007, which we mainly attribute to the better performance of the new scoring function.

In our modified version we consider every query term occurrence, not only adjacent query terms which allows for index precomputation without knowing the query load. 1 Results for Focused Task Our recent development of TopX focused on improving its retrieval quality. For the Focused Task, we submitted the following three runs: – TopX-CO-Baseline-articleOnly: a CO run that considered the non-stemmed terms in the title of a topic (including the terms in phrases, but not their sequence) except terms in negations and stop words.

A way of obtaining this behaviour is through the use of the following transformation: n nidfQ,n (U ) = nidfQ (U ) e(nidfQ (U)) − 1 e−1 (2) In this way, when n = 0 we have nidfQ,0 (U ) = nidfQ (U ), that is to say, we reproduce the original model, and the greater the value of the integer parameter n, we obtain a behaviour more similar to a strict AND operator. In Figure 1 we xn −1 can observe several plots of the function x e e−1 for different values of n. 8 −1 Fig. 1. M. de Campos et al. Experimental Results In this INEX 2008 edition, we have participated submitting nine runs in the AdHoc track (content only).
